Possible edge scaling issue?

posted to: Modeling the Body

I attempted to adjust the "rim" of the cockpit; the first step after removing the inset faces, and twice i zoomed out to find that my entire mesh, while apparently perfect from the right ortho view, had skewed completely on almost an individual vertex basis. I looked through the comments and saw someone with a similar mistake who said he saw that you didn't scale at all during the adjustment, so i tired that and it worked. Is it possible you could elaborate on why it works that way?

I noticed something like that too. Scaling the edges while adjusting them to form the rim of the cockpit created a strange shape and not what I wanted. I think it is safe to say: Better not scale them and try to get the width of the rim right in first place when insetting a second time. Can't explain why it works that way though.

Thank you for your response. Yeah, I figured out throughout the rest of the course that i need to stop just right clicking any old place, moving the 3D cursor, and moving stuff around in edit mode. It was definitely just some skewed Origin point issue. If i may, I would recommend to you guys to possibly put a section specifically about Origin Points and how Edit mode moves them, and their effects on Modifiers etc. in the flow somewhere before this course. I might have missed a video, or it might have been casually mentioned before, but i feel the topic is something that deserves a fair bit of consideration on the very basic level. I've been following the Blender 3D Flow to a "T" and i feel it was only through 3 or 4 attempts at starting, ruining, deleting and restarting the propeller array part of the course that i feel i learned the importance of considering the location of that orange dot. That being said I really appreciate what you guys are doing here, I'm learning a ton.

    Have a good day,
    Cheers
