Hi! Nice tutorial! But let me ask you one thing.
(I'm using Blender 2.72b)
The option to assign an Image Texture to the Material is only enable in the Cycles Render? Can i do this in Blender Render?
What is the reason you did that? Why did you assign an Image texture to the Material? What is the difference if i just unwrap my object (project it from the view) and place it's UVs in the image texture?

In order for it to render with the texture, it needs to be part of the material. For modeling though it wouldn't make a difference, so it'll just save a step when you get to the rendering section.
