Same issue here. The preview render (shift+z) shows it working properly without the fog in the background but trying to render it at all causes it to show a pitch black screen In preview: http://i.imgur.com/QUJ1v5b.jpg when i render it: http://i.imgur.com/G4Q4IEX.png The compositing menu: http://i.imgur.com/aQgMbBP.png

Probably You hide lamps for render. That means In previev (shift z) is workinkg but in render f12 is not. Find lamp and in Outliner turn on visibility for render.

It was weird but I could solve it just by moving everything to another layers, was so weird because I tried a bunch of stff that was in the forums like turning off the compositing checkbox, and all my lamps and camera were setup correctly, but I just moved all to another layer and seemed to fix the problem

Can confirm the moving to a new layer thing fixed it somehow. cool.

You probably had the 'guide' cube hidden in the viewport but on for rendering. Press Alt+H to unhide all objects. Most likely you moved everything apart from the guide cube to a new layer - you could have probably just turned off rendering of the guide cube.

Had a similar issue, needed to make sure the camera icon was off for the guide cube in the outliner:

so that it wouldn't try to render it

Yep that was it thanks. For anyone else who's new, there is a little render camera icon in the outliner next to teh guide cube, click that off and it works great!
