First, an observation: You want it to look like the light is being provided by the triangle. If that were the case, the shadows on the surfaces would change as the triangle passed them by. ie, the surfaces facing the camera would be lit when the triangle was in front of them and in shadow when the triangle was behind. Could that effect be better accomplished by adding another set of lights facing away from the camera or by actually making the triangle be the light source?

    Great question. The easiest way to do this is to make the triangle the light source. You won't get as nice of light falloff with such a thin object, but it would accomplish the look you're talking about.
