Would manually authored lightmaps not be better for something as like a cylinder or sphere?

    Are you referring to creating lightmap UVs for your meshes in an external program (like Blender)? If you let Unity create the lightmap UVs it tends to work better within Unity overall. I believe the way Unity creates them versus other programs is quite different so sometimes externally created Lightmap UVs can have inconsistent results.
