Armature -> Symmetrize for selected bones does not work for me, am I missing something? I am using blender 2.77a. It just deselects my selected bones again, nothing more happens. I want to x-mirror my bones and weights.

Hmm., I've never seen that issue before. Is your armature object's origin where it should be (at the horizon of symmetry)?
