I am going to leave a note as it took me some time to figure out why my brushes with Dyntopo enabled weren't adding more geometry. It is to do with the fact that if the setting is Relative Detail, it depends on the distance from the object. By switching to Constant Detail (which is now my favorite option) and setting Details = 8 or lower, all started to make sense in the video. This concept is explained later on in the other videos but I got stuck at the beginning on this video trying to add smoothness.

I have a theory that because Kent's monitor has a high resolution, I'm guessing ultra HD or quad HD, in comparison to a standard definition monitor(like mine), the pixel based relative detail option is much smaller on his mesh as it would be on mine even when the mesh is the same distance away from the view. This would cause brush strokes on lower res monitors to possess less geometry than those on higher res screens. I could be wrong, but I faced similar problems like this following some photoshop courses, dealing with brush sizes and image sizes.
