This lesson, and its instructor has made my decision to denounce cgcookie! Nobody is paying to "watch" the instructor just make stuff. Nobody wants to pay hard earned $$ to watch someone repetitively say, "...And now I'm gonna grab this, and then I'm gonna do this to that, and now I'm gonna do this..." !!! We want teachers not showoffs! My question is, "can we please have teachers?"

I have found most of the lessons here quite helpful. My only other suggestion would be to ask for a refund of your last month. I hope it works out for you. ;)

Thank you wanderingmonk7. I guess I've just had a bad experience from the beginning. Perhaps I should stay awhile longer to give due diligence. And it seems that the community may just be worth it by itself, as you have so demonstrated. thanks again

You are welcome. Did you get the hatch worked out? If you let me know the time interval you are having trouble with maybe I can help.

    Will do. Really appreciate this

Well, for instance at 7:48 the door is still a plane, but magically at 8:20 it has depth and beveling, with no video. At 17:58 he uses the "B" shortcut to "deselect" vertices, but mine only selects. I can't find a way to "deselect" the vertices on the sliding mechanism to (like he says) "make it narrower." So, for the umpteenth time, I'm stuck. This guy is NOT a teacher and has no business trying to be one. Please help. Thanks

Mr. Frazier I have to agree with you about these being fast and difficult to follow. One of the limitations of the button display software is that it doesn't capture some of the secondary key actions. The problem @ 17:58: The box select (B) is toggled with the shift key between select and deselect. So press the "B" key and release it. Now hold the "Shift" key down and drag the box select tool with the left mouse button to deselect what is in the box when the left mouse button is released. Let me know if this clarifies this part. I will address 7:48 next.

This tut was modeled in 2.64 and 2.69. I am using 2.77. What version are you using. There are slight differences in the versions. Couple things right off hand. He is extruding and scaling in the X,Y axis and then the Z axis. Also when he double bevels I would bevel only once with 3 segments and a profile of 0.5 . Yes he doesn't explain every detail. If this gets you through this area let me know. If you need more I will give you detailed keystrokes. Again what version are you using? We can get through this. ;)

I was using 2.77 but found some kinks in it I didn't like, so I went back to 2.76.
  • David Frazier(pointoflife14) replied
    Thanks that did clarify.

I have given up on "The Hatch" series! I'm not the only one who is perturbed by this ridiculously impossible to follow video series! What a waste of my time.
