Hi Kent, I'm using blender 2.75, how can I turn off project paint? I want the brush to stop at the UV seam, but the project paint option can't be disabled as a whole.

Unfortunately, the latest versions of Blender have removed the non-project paint method entirely. So you can't disable it. I wasn't thrilled about that decision, but if you really want that functionality you can always download the last version of Blender that supported it - This video was recorded with 2.66

With Blender 2.75, you can use face selection in order to paint certain areas only. Do this by enabling face selection which Kent uses to reveal a wire frame, however with blender 2.75 you have to select the faces which you wish to paint on which is why you have to have all faces selected to paint(Thus removing the desired wire frame effect that Kent demonstrates). By only selecting a certain area you can limit where you paint. Hope this helps.

Just to add to this, also be aware that you can use selection shortcut keys here, such as Box Select (B), Circle Select (C) and - perhaps most usefully - Select Linked (L) to select and limit your strokes to a whole UV island.

Thanks Jed, your comment basically solves this for me, Project Paint really isnt necessary anymore!
