Why do you use holding edges instead of creases when doing subsurf'd pieces?

Why do you use holding edges instead of creases when doing subsurf'd pieces?

    Namely so that my final model is software agnostic. If I use creasing, the model is stuck in Blender since creasing is a blender-specific feature. By adding holding edges I can export to sketchfab, or zbrush, or maya, etc.

    It's mostly personal preference, but I personally feel better about my mesh be software agnostic in the end.
