I saw several youtube video's on how to create a lava lamp. They use metaballs and animate those by hand. I was wondering if it would be possible to make the stuff inside also with physics? Fluid physics go down and don't really look like blobs. It should stay inside the container and slowly move up first as a stream and the fall apart into blobs
Hi Sheila,
Not sure if that is possible. It's a fluid, that is behaving almost like (slow moving) smoke. Maybe you can have Particles being 'guided' by smoke and Rendered as Metaballs....or Subdivde Remeshed Spheres...🤔
Maybe fun to see if you can get it to work, but probably a lot easier to just Animate Metaballs.
I was thinking today about a force guiding the meta balls, but that would not give that upwards vertical snakelike feature when the lamp is just warming up. I was hoping for something more flyid like.. I'll ponder a bit more
This is almost certainly haring off on a wild tangent buuuuut... Awhile back Ducky posted some videos on YouTube demonstrating how to use geometry nodes to (re)create the look of metaballs. I fully admit to knowing next to zero about geometry nodes so I have no idea if Ducky's geonode-metaballs and geonodes physics would work together..but I thought I'd mention it as, at least, some sort of thought exercise. :D
