Hi All,
I've created a generic mannequin which I have posed for a specific image I have in mind. I'd like to now start sculpting a specific character and start adding clothes and gear. What is the best way to approach this project? I am relatively new to blender, and would appreciate a fundamental breakdown of workflow. I've attached a screen shot of my figure, which is still using subdivison modifiers for all forms except the hands. I've broken the figure down by arms, torso, head, etc.
Thanks for any and all feedback and advice, much appreciated.

Hello. Are you relatively new to Blender only or 3D in general? If you are coming from another software and know all the concept of computer graphics and you're just new to Blender, that is totally different from being completely new to all things 3D. I ask because the answer will vary depending on where you are at.
Making a whole character is very very big work, and if you are not careful and start in the highest of difficulties, you run the risk of abandoning everything, as most people get frustrated as they miscalculate how much work it really is.
One thing I can already metion, is that you can't Sculpt on a Mesh with a Subdivision Surface Modifier. That is, you can, but then You'll only be Sculpting on the unsubdivided (unaltered) Mesh. You need to either Delete or Apply the Modifier(s) and then Add a Multires Modifier.
You can also learn a lot from this 'workshop' (even though it was made with an older Blender Version): https://cgcookie.com/courses/modeling-realistic-characters-with-blender
But the Fundamentals is certainly a great place to start: https://cgcookie.com/courses/core-fundamentals-of-digital-sculpting-blender ,whether you're new to Scvulpting, or just new to Blender.
Hi Omar,
I'm new to Blender, but have been working in 3D since early 2000's, primarily in Rhino and Revit. Architecture is my day trade, but have always loved animation and visual storytelling. I've just begun CORE on CG cookie. good stuff. But I'd already started my on building a basic figure and playing with poses. Not rigging yet. I can easily see that building a character from scratch could be a daunting task. So maybe I'll continue with CORE and keep chipping away. Appreciate your response.
And Martin, thanks for those tips and links well. Much appreciated
