Mesh Deform Modifier

Question Modeling

Is there a better version of the Mesh Deform modifier? I prefer to use more modifiable / specific cages to deform my geometry rather than trying to smash a lattice into place. However, the Mesh Deform modifier weights the bound vertices oddly. When I move the deformer mesh past a certain point, the vertices that were contained within the cage eventually become out of sync with the cage border. It's like the weight values haven't been interpolated properly. It's really annoying. I would prefer something that behaves more like the FFD modifiers in 3DS Max.

    Hi TTheRavensCurio ,

To be honest, I have never used the Mesh Deform Modifier.

Now, I don't know what the FFD Modifiers do , but I can see, from a few experiments, how the Mesh Deform in Blender doesn't behave like you want.

The best advice I can give you (and probably, someone else will have better ideas), is to 'forget' 3DS Max, at least how things are done there, and look at what you want to achieve and then think of how to do that.

The Mesh Deform Modifier is also 'super old' and isn't likely to be improved, so maybe you can do something with Geometry Nodes? Again, look at what you want to accomplish and then think of how you can achieve that in the Software you are using.
