Rays, Cages, & Explosions

Question Modeling

I feel like the lecture in BAKE called "Rays, Cages, & Explosions" completely glosses over the "exploding" process at the end.

There's no real demonstration of how to separate the high-poly mesh and low-poly mesh into equally sized pieces, and then move them out to equal positions.

They're just... there... and the lecture proceeds with showing the Bake button being pressed.

Great lecture overall, but some additional elaboration would be super-helpful here.

Yeah I see what you're saying. I guess the thought process is that it's not a hands on modeling tutorial and such demonstration would take a lot of time and setting it up it's more of a modeling process than anything else. So for modeling the low poly parts there's other tutorials that would teach you how to go about it. Chunck himself has other tutorials where he goes through the whole baking steps without skipping a beat. If you want some links we can link you up.

Yes indeed...that doesn't have anything to do with Baking.... .it's really easy though

    ...and then Scaling:

Another thing is, to  Keyframe them like that, so Frame 1 is image 1 and frame 2...you get the gist.

I assume you know the Modeling basics:

In Edit Mode: P > Separate By Loose Parts,

Object Mode: Object > Set Origin > Origin to Geometry.

    Thanks for the response, guys!

Omar... you're correct. And indeed, my main concern wasn't the modeling so much as the logistics of separating and moving everything around in order to prepare the Bake.

To which I can say... Martin, you are a genius! Just followed your steps and was able to get a gorgeous Normal map baked out 🔥
