So i'm working on the tire model. I'm having this pinching that appears from the bake. Now the first one is how it turned out, and second one tried to fix the model but not sure it work. Tried the experimental mode that was put in substance painter. Well least the tire is coming along well.
Hello Wolfer. I think the only one that knows Substance and baking around here is Chunck. Lucky for you Chunck is great and has like a calm voice and is probably going to be like oh no a citizen needs my help! I'm on my way! Instead of, oh great another citizen needs my help, what a surprise, yippee. I'll just link him up.
Hi wwolfer ,
That might just be too low poly....notice how the problems are exactly where the Edge Loops are.
My suspicion is that it is a result of the topology of the high-poly. You may need to go in and pull some of those edge loops a little wider in areas where you want a flatter face. It may be possible that the curvature of the faces is really pronouncing that pinch more than it would otherwise. It is a bit of a tricky area, as you want those edge loops for the creased area of the elevated tread part, however maybe a couple of edge slides will do the trick there. Maybe just do a couple and compare with a bake to see if that helps alleviate the problem before fully committing!
RE: Ambient Occlusion
That looks like it may be an issue with pixel padding, I believe SP calls it dilation. In the baking dialog window, what is the Dilation slider set to? 🤔
It may not be the final solution, but I do think spreading out those edge loops will help alleviate that area for sure. Sometimes the curvature of the model really accentuates those edges pinching together, it can be a pain.
Interesting, it looks like dilation should be fine. Is there any overlap in the high poly mesh at that area? It does look like it could be the area where the array modifier connects back onto itself? I'm sure you've already done that cleanup process, I'm just throwing it out there in case it is worth a second look. Truth be told I'm not too sure what it could be, you are only seeing that appear in the AO bake?
Yes well happy to say i fixed it. on the high poly i added more edges both horizontally and vertical. I mean it the high poly so it can higher since it will be bake. As for the other issue i fixed it as i went into the Ambient occulsion settings and messed around with the secondary rays and it min occluder settings.
Chunck is like the Superman of baking. Flying around the internets spotting who needs help and saving them from certain hair pulling from the frustration. Now people get to keep their hair and barbers all around the world get to cut it, now they get to make a living as well. So even barbers got helped today, thanks Chunck 🤙🏼
