BOOL operation

posted to: Laptop Materials

So when Kent noticed the overlapping edges. I started cleaning my mesh up and have a variety of duplicate verts and floating vertices. I am going to just start over from before the booleans are applied. Just a question about applying the booleans. Should the Bool object be slightly out from the base mesh or slightly inward? I feel like I know it should be in a little bit so there are not overlapping faces. I just want to get some clarification so I don’t have to do try three times.

Cleaning up the mesh was my original plan but the normals are showing some strange shading. Perhaps the angles of the ngons are too extreme. It’s mostly problematic around the sub c ports.

thank you

I think all I can say is, booleans are very chaotic, they wont give you the same result, so answers can vary depending on the result they gave you. Sometimes it'll be better slightly out, sometimes better slightly in. You have to fiddle around and adapt depending on what comes out, but clean up is most likely going to be a thing each time.

Thank you, Omar. I will see what works best and update accordingly. Im not a fan of meshes that are sloppy, for me at least. Sometimes perfectionism slows me down.

I'm also a perfectionist I think, not to the point of diminishing returns, but I like my meshes to always be clean, just in case I have to go back to them after a while or if I have to share them they are always presentable and easy to manage if I have to change something down the line. I don't tend to use booleans, since they are so dirty and destructive, but when I do, I immediately apply them and go in to clean whatever the mess came out of it.
