Rigging ball with separate squash/stretch rotation?

maybe this is a bit advanced but so many ball rig I found doesn't let me rotate the squash/stretch angle separately.

the only rig I found that could do that is the ball from Bloop animation, but it's in Maya. Can blender do a rig like this as well?

You can get the same effect with this ball rig by moving the squash and stretch. Then spin the body.

    Hi kki13n0,

Blender can do this - but the rig in this course does not have this exact feature.  You can achieve the same effect as dillenbata3 has described or by rotating the body of the bone.

I'm going to ask you some questions though,  well it's actually some questions that I want you to ask yourself.

Ask yourself why you need this functionality.

Are you wanting to learn animation and you have found a roadblock so you can delay this?

Or are you wanting to learn how to rig and you think this will be an interesting challenge?

If you want to learn to animate - just learn that.  Don't let a non-independently rotating squash and stretch control stop you.  Often in animation you need the rig to do something that it can't really do - and you find a way. It's possible that you have just found a way to self sabotage yourself before you have even started.

    So just learn animation.

If you're wanting to learn how to rig - then learn how to rig ;)

Take the CORE | Fundamentals of Rigging- as well as this extension project - then put your skills to the test to create that functionality.

If you need help - I, and others here can help you do that.

Only you will know the answer(s) to the questions above.  Oh but what if it's both?
Just pick one, and start on that (don't split your focus)

    Hope this helps.

Hello Wayne, Sorry for late reply.

I'm learning 3d as a hobby right now. I do want to focus more on animation in the future. I thought some basic understand of Rigging would help me in Animation as well. 3D animation seem to depend on the quality of the rig.

I want to make a Ball character to animate. so it's feel weird if the ball always have to face a certain angle so that it can squash top down of it body.

But I did manage to rig the ball I want. Using Lattice and Shape key. Now every time it hit a wall or being kicked, All I need is rotate the squash stretch angle. Kinda glad that I didn't gave up. :D
