Winding an object around another

I've been trying to wrap a string around a tuner. I can extrude and bevel a few times, then use the screw modifier, but that removes the texture on the strings. I made the strings using the screw modifier. Bending seemed promising but never quite worked.Guitar Test3.png

I tried figuring this out, but evidently it's above my skill level atm. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm assuming the string is a mesh. It would be easier if it was a curve. With that said you can use a curve and a curve modifer. To make it easier I would separate the part that going to loop from the straight part. Otherwise you can at the part that is to coil around to a vertex group and use that group with the curve modifier.

    Hi Jackie,

I agree with Dwayne, that using Curves would probably be the best way..

If you (install and) enable the Extra Curve Objects Addon, you can start with a Spiral and then Extrude the ends as needed:

When you've got that, you can start worrying about the Materials (Curves come with nice UVs and depending on how close you get, a Bump might be enough).

If necessary, you can also, for the larger strings, model a segment of string and then use a few Modifiers to make it follow the Curve you made, something like this, maybe:

And I just remembered, there is an even better start Curve than the Spiral, for not cylindrical shapes, using that same Addon:

Thanks guys. Gonna try it without add on as I want to learn, Hadn't made it that far into the fundamentals yet, keep getting sidetrack making stuff.
