I'd like to bake the normals of one highly deformed, sculpted mesh, onto a simpler mesh, like defining scales on a reptiles. My methodology is to slightly enlarge the sculpted mesh, and then assume blender has some sort of method of project from the normals of the base mesh to retrieve normal/displacement information from the sculpted mesh.
Is there a video walking through this?
Bake is the one for that, but in the mean time, if I'm not mistaken, these courses uses such techniques:

https://cgcookie.com/courses/animated-sci-fi-game-environment-creation-in-blender-2-8
https://cgcookie.com/courses/creating-mini-tanks-for-a-mobile-game-with-blender-2-8

Perfect, if I focus on modeling then hopefully the baking course will be released by the time I'm done with everything.
