JD Hellraiser's Polybook

Polybooks

Well, hi all. I finally decided to try Blender again. I gave up on the donut multiple times, but last month I was determined to stick with it. Here's my donut.c9985df05dbc78ec.jpg

After finishing my donut, I had no idea where to go next. I spent hours watching video after video, and just tinkered around creating different objects. I then found CG Cookie basic course and followed along. I enjoyed the pacing of the course and actually started to understand things a little more. Membership, here I come.

After joining I decided to try the "Press Start" course. Finished my console a week ago.Game of Death.jpg

I started following along, then decided to try pausing the course and seeing if i could do the next part myself. Most of the things I tried didn't achieve the desired outcome, so I'd go back to the video. Was almost finished when I noticed something just didn't look right. Good thing my delete key works. After removing and replacing the face multiple times, I learned that it pays to check your face orientation. Time to start Fundamentals.

Did the snowman, and thought I'll change a few things. I started making changes, and kept coming up with ideas. Spent hours trying to get it right, so I started the crate. Well what do you know, more ideas for the crate, so I put the snowman off, finishing the crate first.box1.pngbox3.pngbox2.png

After finishing the crate this morning, I put the finishing touches on "Fozuzu the Snowman". snowman.png

I'm hooked! Can't wait to see where this goes next. Let's see how many more times I can get sidetracked before finishing a course.

Way to go! Really nice work. Proof that practice and sticking with it pays off. Keep it up and you'll go places. :)

Also great way of telling your Blender journey so far. You're not alone, everyone that finds CG Cookie is like finally I'm understanding how it works. People here can teach for reals, concepts and how's, why's, not just which buttons to push.

Was intending to delve back into the Fundamentals this week, but a nagging voice reminded me of something I had started after the Press Start Tutorial. No, it wasn't my inner voice, but the better half asking me about a simple guitar I had began just to see if I could do it. So back to work I go, thinking I can add a little more to it and be done. That little kept expanding. After getting stuck on a part, she asks ''Why don't you just watch the video?" Evidently she thought I had started a tutorial and had quit on it. Either way, I learned a lot through trial and error. I also learned how much effort can be put into finding the right reference images. While I'm not completely happy with the results, I'm gonna move on for now. I can see the improvement in my skills between the base and neck (which I had made originally), and everything I've added this week. I may do another later and use this to compare with. I'm getting more comfortable with the program, and thankfully I had some help here when I was stuck. This led me to something I hadn't got to in the course. Guitar Test.png

Looking great. Remember one thing is modeling, and another thing is rendering, lighting, composition and presentation. If you want to showcase your model more than anything, you can focus on wireframes and clay renders and AO looks. Maybe what you're not satisfied with is the presentation part, but that's a whole different expertise.
