This may be related to my last question. I have set all the units to match the video and now zooming into the console is extremely restricted.

As far as I know, zooming in Blender doesn't have anything to do with the Units, but with the World Origin (so, where the X-, Y- and Z-Axis of the 3D 'world' Coordinate System meet). Blender zooms in towards the World Origin, but won't go past it, so if your Object is completely 'before' (according to your View) the World Origin, you can zoom even through/past your Object, but if your Object is 'behind' the World Origin, you can't even get very close to it.
In the Top/Bottom, Front/Back and Left/Right Orthographic Views this is usually less of an inconvenience.
