Local vs Global Shortcut

When transforming an object, if you press the xyz keys to constrain it to one axis, pressing that key again will toggle between global and local.
Just look at the shortcut tips at the bottom of your screen for more fun stuff. Took me a while to notice them, hopefully that'll save you guys some time too.

That is only true if you have transform orientation(Comma key) set to global. If you have any other orientation like Local selected then first time will be the selected orientation and the second time will be Global orientation. This is also true with Planes(Shift+ X, Y, or Z). This is covered under the Blender Basic 4.x: orientation and parenting in chapter 1
