in blender 4.3.2 when i plug in the color ramp into the overlay in the b slot it ignores everything and only shows the principled color. Any thoughts what is causing that?

    HI Chris bblenderyo ,

Could you provide a screenshot of you full UI with the Shader Editor and 3D View open? Also a timestamp, so we know what your talking about, please.

As far as I know, nothing in 4.3 should be different, material-wise.

top one is trying to follow the tutorial section Laptop Materials at about 7:20.

the bottom is if i flip the inputs of the color mix node. which looks ok but i get wildly different results when inputting the numbers used in the tut.

I have checked face orientations and applied scale. (side note the laptop course didn't show up when i searched the website i got the link from a youtube

short not sure if that is useful info, its what made me join tho)

    Solution

    Hey Chris,

I think you got your Color in slot A  of your Mix Color Node too close to white. Kent uses a Value of 0.4 there:

In numbers, Overlay does this (where r is the Output/result, when the Factor is set to 1):

    So, if your a is RGB (1, 1, 1), then r = 1 - [2*0*(1-b)] = 1, so your b doesn't matter then.
