Cinamyn's Polybook

Polybooks

Here I will share my work from the CORE classes.

First the Snowman, nice and simple. I wanted to do my own hands but following the teacher's concepts. I believe symmetry is still natural in this case. The Top Hat I thought was cool if its tilted a bit.

A 3D-rendered snowman in Blender with three white spherical body parts, two stick arms, green circular eyes, an orange nose, and a black top hat. The snowman stands on a flat circular surface that resembles snow, and the background consists of a gray Blender workspace grid.

Sci-Fi Crate, I followed the teacher's instructions and tried to add my own additions to the model. I tried to make a key lock by insetting, extruding and bevelling. I think I did some loop cuts to cut the actual hole.

To be honest, there was a lot of fumbling, because I think a key hole is a bit extreme at this beginner level, and colouring the hole black was also an ordeal which involved separating the face at the back from the crate and loop cutting and um... I think I have a bunch of meshes in the outline now.

You can notice a few of my errors, trying to be too ambitious lol

Soccer Ball, now this one was incredibly tricky for me. I suffered a vertex group bug, in that it was capturing more faces than selected. Restarting the project fixed things.

Later I rushed the lesson a bit and didn't hide enough faces, so I was stuck working out how to inset this 2 connected hexagons.

Eventually I slowed down and sorted myself out. I found this lesson really above me, maybe because i'm new, or maybe because i'm not used to a complex puzzle like that.

Tried to consider rendering tips from earlier, and it is still tricky. But glad to work on that at the same time.

Not a bad start at all Jake!

    Nice snowman!

I'd like to see more of the (screen) right side of the crate, so an extra Light (less strong than the main Light) might be nice. And the (Smooth) Shading around the keyhole makes that area look a bit 'mushy'.

But this is a Modeling Course, so you're good😀

Thanks Martin, those are some great tips I’ll be keeping in mind!

That soccer ball turned out really well!

Glad you overcame all those hurdles along the way👏🏼

It's been about a week since the last update, so i'm starting a new message (and I think the forum is not built for massive singular posts)

I did do a Hard Drive earlier! And that'll be up here later, but I really struggled with the materials so felt sad to post. Will do later though, because it is modelled.

Worked on a Coffee Cup today and this one was a lot of fun. I'm getting a bit more comfortable with the modifiers now, but wary of how many polygons... I think this one had a lot due to the subdividing and beveling.

Anyway! Tried to make a plate to sit the cup on, and tried to make them both a white porcelain... but with the lighting they almost looked like a singular object rather than separate. I tried many different ways to cause that separation and this was the best I could do. Still learning!

    EDIT:
Back with the Hard Drive, struggled a lot with the actual rendering of this one due to the way the project ends with everything parented. Was difficult figuring out materials and shading amongst that.

Also, what's the deal with Bloom! I could only do it in the compositing tab, but it wouldn't show up in the render. I guess I'll be learning that after.

Well the separation between the cup and saucer is really clear now. The material looks great, but the image is a bit blinding though.

The title is "Hard Driven Coffee"
