Window reflections blender 4.3

posted to: Create a Skylight

Hi there,

The course has been great so far. The only issue I've encountered is the unavoidable changes between blender versions. I know running the version of blender that the course was originally filmed in is an option, but I'm more interested in working out the differences between versions as best as possible, so I can use the knowledge I pick up moving forward.

Currently I'm a bit stuck on how to get reflections to show up the way that Kents are in the video. Currently everything is pretty dull. Not sure if this is related, but the old specular settings on the principled BSDF are no longer present, and I seem to have to plug the color attribute into the emission color to get things to show up in the correct color.

This is what I have so far:

    Hi jammingammon ,

Specular has been re-named to IOR Level and you have that at 0.5, just as in the Tutorial. Metallic at 0.5 is also the same and the Roughness.

So the only thing would be to get rid of the Emission; remove the Color Input of the Emission and set the Color to black (or the Emission Strength to 0).

Also be sure you're in material preview or actual render view and most importantly, that there's a world HDRI so you get stuff to reflect to.

Thanks guys. Seems to be working much better now. I think it was a combination of having the color input plugged into the emission, and not having a world HDRI. Before when I set the emission color to black, everything was flat and dark, but enabling the HDRI seemed to fix that.
