Rigging a character model who's feet aren't straight

I recall @waylow saying in (I think it was) the RIG course, that it's a bit of a pain in the butt to rig a characters feet if the feet aren't straight.

I've downloaded a model to rig up and I'm looking at the feet. They're not facing completely straight forward.

Would this constitute as the aformentioned pain in the butt to have to rig?

I'll give it a go anyway and see how it turns out (atleast that way I'm learning from making mistakes if it doesn't work out well), otherwise I'll try editting them to get them straight.

Actually, in a situation like this, if this model naturally has a bit of an offset foot position as it's default, should I align the bones with the global Y-axis, or align them with the mesh so that the bones are also pointing slightly outwards?

    Hi Harris,
Yeah you should rig the feet straight so that when the character is walking forward, it is just 1 axis.  This will make it so much easier to animate - and to create a looping walk cycle.

There's a few things you can do in this situation - but the easiest solution is to straighten the feet in edit mode.

They don't need to be perfectly straight, just straight enough so that it doesn't look wrong when the feet/toe is rotating while aligned with the world.

    Hope that makes sense.
