Made a mistake choosing the wrong target mesh option

posted to: Starting RetopoFlow

Hey!

Hopefully I will be able to explain this clearly:

My base sculpt has about 190,000 vertices. By my mistake I chose to create + Active Retopo object using my base sculpt. Now that I have retopoed about half of my sculpt the process is getting more laggier by the minute. I realized that I should have chosen the + Cursor since it can handle more polygons and is better suited for base sculpts.

Is there a way I could transfer the "+ Active" retopology I have made to another "+ Cursor" retopo object?

Let me know if the question is unclear, thanks!

I've never used RetopoFlow, so I have no idea. Hopefully the other guys will know. If not, maybe we can get JL in here to see if he has an answer.

Hi Lauri, so both of those options actually do the exact same thing with the only difference being where the object origin gets created and what the new retopology object's local orientation is.

The lag in RetopoFlow 3 is from displaying the low poly mesh on top of Blender. If you hide or separate out the areas that you're not actively working on (like the face of a character when you're working on the legs) then the lag should be kept to a minimum. I know that's not super convenient, but that's exactly why we're overhauling everything with RetopoFlow 4.

And we didn't even call for him, he just appeared here with answers like a genie when you press G in Blender 3 times.

Awesome, thank you! Did exactly as you said an was able to finish retopoing lag free. Love the addon, but also really looking forward for RetopoFlow 4!
