Makeshift Renderfarm

Makeshift render farms and placeholder renders to use multiple computers peeked my interest!

Where do I find that video?

And is it still the same with the newer versions of Blender? All I have to do is render from the same directory, placeholder checked and overwrite unchecked?

It's still the same and yes that is all you need to do.

You can also speed up rendering by using background rendering(AKA command line rendering)

If you don't have a shared directory/folder you can use the step method, but it's not as efficient. The step method is you set steps to the number of machines then change the start frame to the machine number. So if you're using 3 machines first machine would start on frame 1. Second machine would start on 2 and third would start on 3. All 3 would be set to a step of 3.

That's awesome! Will definitely test this out on the next longer project. Thanks Dwayne!

If you are looking at buying parts instead of using existing old pc's i would strongly suggest a chat with ChatGPT. i got specs for a really good build that you can start cheaply then expand at a very low cost

Thanks for the tip Stuart! I think I'll start first trying to set it up through networks so I can use both my personal and work computers... Kent also mentioned splitting it with Wayne through Dropbox or Google Drive. But if that doesn't suffice I'll compare between a paid render farm and setting up my own.
