Hallo,
I have been able to follow the tutorial so far, I parented all into jellyfish.000, but then I move around the box those red lappets are not included and they stay at their original place. I'm using blender 4.2. Hope you can help.
Hallo Martin,
I'm still one step before duplicating. In the timeline at 20.04 he has just created jellyfish.000 and can then take the box and whole jellyfish is moved around.
Well if I take my box with jellyfis.000 and move it around the whole jellyfish is moved around except the lappets. Somehow they don't seem to be in the box. So if I try to do the copy later on my copied jellyfish doesn't have any lappets. That's my problem.
Hi Beate,
In that case, the lappets probably didn't get Parented to the Empty ('box').
Thanks for adding a timestamp, by the way, I did this Course ages ago...
The method should still work mostly the same in 4.2 (apart from the fact that we no longer have Groups...).
If you still can't get it to work after re-checking the Parenting, you can post a link to your .blend file (via Dropbox, Googledrive, or so) here and we'll have a look at what's happening.
Hi Martin,
I appreciate your help. Well, it's obviously a problem with the parenting. I noticed that the lappets weren't moved around when I only chose the bell.000 and moved that around. I managed to parent the lappets to the bell. I move the bell and the lappets follow the movement. My next step was to create that empty and I parented everything to that empty. I just followed the steps of the tutorial. Now I have jellyfish.000. But my problem still exists. If I move the empty box the lappets are not included and are not moved around. If I choose bell.000 inside the empty box and move it the lappets will follow.
I'd like to send my blend file but I need some help how to do it.
Hi Beate,
You can upload your .blend file to Dropbox, Googledrive or so and post a link here.
My guess is, that if you Parent the lappets to the bell, you then should just Parent the bell to the Empty (because the lappets are already Parented to the bell). But it'll be easier to troubleshoot when we can see the .blend.
Hi Martin,
here is a link: https://we.tl/t-rauFlMvOrN
it's from https://wetransfer.com
I do hope you can use it. And thanks again for your help.
Hi Beate, That worked!
For the future, you don't need to add the second link. Also, you uploaded your .blend1 file, better to upload your .blend.
Now, I don't remember how this is set up completely, but if you (temporarily) disable the Hair Dynamics in the Particle System, you can Move, Rotate, Scale and Duplicate without problem:
Hi Martin,
it worked, I'm so happy. And thank you for the information about the blend1 file, I didn't know that. Well, it was not my intention to link a blend1 file, that happened by mistake, but now I know a lot more about saving files.
I have enjoyed this tutorial so much and thanks to you I can go on.
