Hello~
I tried snapping these Cones onto the UV Sphere, trying to figure out what some of the Snap settings do, and I can't get a clear answer.
It feels like ever since the "snap to face" changed to "face project" and "face nearest", nobody bothered to make another tutorial on how to snap a face to another via this function.
Some say the difference between project and nearest is that one only allows snapping to visible topology, and the other allows all...that doesn't feel like what it's doing at all! project alligns the rotation when"allign rotation to target" is on, while nearest doesn't allign anything regardless of setting.
What's more, I haven't found a single set of settings that allow me to snap face to face, rather, it is always the Object Origin snapping to the face, regardless of what i choose here
Face Nearest + Snap with closest allows a single vert to snap onto the target*s surface, but thats not what i need, i need the whole bottom of the cone to snap to it
I think it just boils down to no tutorials existing post "face snap" change, is there something yall can recommend?
The thing is, snapping is one of those super finicky things that feel haphazard. You try to make sense of it and then one day it behaves differently. It depends on the origin point, on where your mouse cursor is on the screen, on the scale of the object, orientation, etc. In your cone example, you probably need to move the origin point to the base of the object, but sometimes you can't move your origin point, so you use some of the others, sometimes you use another object as reference that you add only for that and then delete. There is a new feature to set the snap base that is very useful:

As already mentioned, Snapping takes practice!

Well, actually that's not what happened exactly:
Here are the Settings you want:
You can also (a bit advanced; needs practice) change the Snap Base on the fly:

Hi, thank you for the in depth look! i was using blender 3.6, and the "face" option wasn*t there, so glad it's back!
Then again..it doesnt seem like it's needed, tried it in 3.6 again, and it worked alright.
I guess it didnt click for me that I need to change the Object Origin for something like this.
Hi Nougat Time,
in Blender 3.6, these Settings should allow you to Snap a Face to a Face (Snap with Closest!):
There shouldn't be the need to change the Position of the Object's Origin.
Mind you, the Object's Origin (of the Object you are trying to Snap), is what is being aligned to the Face you are Snapping to.
