Why two identical rigs in the same collection

posted to: 04 Rig a Gun Turret
I don't know how to paraphrase it, but at the end of the video Wayne takes the rig and adds it to the ā€œTURRETā€ collection. But this rig is already in the ā€œTurret_RIGā€ which is in the ā€œTURRETā€ collection. Now the rig is once in the ā€œTURRET_Rigā€ collection and ā€œlooseā€. Somehow I don't understand this. Is that good for something or is it for the overview or just personal style?

You want the control bones to be in one collection and the rest in another collection. That way you can hide the other collection and leave the control bones visible.Ā

    Hey Leo,
This is a little bit of personal preference but also practicality.

I'm placing the control rig in 2 places for the convenience of the animators.
The TURRET collection, is the master collection.Ā  The one that houses ALL the components.Ā  It's the one you link into a new scene etc.
There are different naming conventions for this but personally I use all caps.

Then the Turret_RIG collection, would be where all the armatures are housed.Ā  In this setup, there is only 1 armature, but that's not always the case ;)

I place a link to that same control rig in the top level so the animator can easily find what they are looking for.Ā  If there are multiple armatures in the rig collection they could be scratching their heads.

They should be able to see the control rig at the top level and go "oh look here it is, this is the one I should be animating, wasn't it nice that I didn't need to go looking for it - I'm going to send the rigger a nice message on slack to say thank you"

I wonder if they will do that though haha
