Nodules on my bumper

Question Modeling

Hey, this is the cube bumper. Can you help me out with getting rid of the tiny pyramids on the bevel. I've changed all the modifier settings in every combination I can imagine but can't work it out. Thanks.New Cube12.png

    Hi Roger, Dodge ,

I don't know what's happening, just from looking at the screenshot....I'd suggest you update Blender to 4.2.1 (and make sure your GPU driver is up to date).

Go through the usual suspects 'double Vertices' and inconsistent Normals (in Edit Mode, with everything Selected: M > Merge > By Distance, followed by SHIFT+N).

If that doesn't help, could you post a link to your .blend file here (via Dropbox, googledrive, or so).

Yes, exactly as Martin says. I've never seen those little triangles before in exactly the middle of an edge. I'm curious to know the answer to this one. If you can upload your file and post the link.

What you got there is the classic case of double vertices (notice one being pulled away).

Happens all the time and is not directly obvious. It can happen for example when you cancel but not reverse (ctrl+z) an extrusion or hitting the wrong button by accident. No worries though, that's an easy fix: In edit mode hit A to select everything then M -> merge by distance.

If you run into an issue like this that's usually the first thing I'd check. I like to call it the "Try turning it off and back on again" of mesh modelling in Blender. :) Note on the bottom how many vertices are removed after doing this.

Crate looks very nice, btw. Keep it up :)

Thanks guys. I'm a bit embarrassed I asked now. It's not like I haven't been told about this (in various tutorials) again and again. Still, it's nice to get advice from this community.

Don't worry Roger, mistakes are the best of teachers, that's how the knowledge really sticks in there in the mind. You are going to make lots of mistakes, we have made countless ourselves, so buckle up and don't be afraid to ask anything, we'll point you in the right direction.
