Updating a piece that didn't look great

Hey Chunck! I wasn't happy with how the low poly version of the ring around the cushion was looking so I decided to go back and update it in Blender. I wanted to share the steps I took and ask you if there might be a better or more efficient way to do it in the future:

  1. I deleted the low poly piece I wasn't happy with
  2. I duplicated the high poly piece and cleaned it up to a lower poly version preserving the silhouette
  3. I prepared the normals/edges for proper shading
  4. I added the seams and unwrapped it
  5. I selected everything again and packed the islands with the updated piece unwrap
  6. I triangulated and exported the low poly FBX only since the high poly hasn't changed
  7. I went back to instaMAT and updated the file under "mesh" and then baked again and selected "replace" for the previously baked channels data

That's fantastic dude! Love that you're making it your own, you get so much more out of these mini exercises. I'm sure we would all love to see some images of your added flare if you have some kicking around. :)
