Keyboard Recommendation

Question

Hello! I've just joined and have just started with Blender and need a keyboard recommendation from the community. I'm currently on a MacBook Pro and while good on its own for me, when I am at my office it has to sit to the side in order to fit, so I need a separate keyboard to use. Apple's Magic Keyboard has too low of a profile for my fingers. Thanks everyone, can't wait to get going!

Being on Mac complicates things, they are so closed with their ecosystem, hardly anything works in it. And to make matters worst, there's the whole USB Type C thing. I say that because a guy at work bought a none-Apple keyboard for his MacBook Pro and it lags so much it's practically unusable. Tried all the drivers for both the keyboard and dongle, still it's the worst. So I'd stick with Apple things? Maybe there's no other one than the magic keyboard? I guess for me as long as the keyboard has the numpad, I'm good. Maybe wireless is cool too. Key press travel not so much.

You could try a keyboard designed for Blender...

I'm not a keyboard expert by any means so I'll leave a better educated response to someone else when it comes to specific brands and products. But I have a HyperX alloy origins mechanical keyboard with red switches (If I'm honest, I can't even remember what the red switches do compared to others). But if we're talking tactility then I love it.

I also appreciate the fact that the keys on a mechanical keyboard are well spaced apart - meaning I'm less likely to hit the wrong button lol. They also feel suprisingly nice and sound good to use. Whatever you opt for, I'd really recommend a full-sized keyboard (one with a numpad), especially for working in Blender and/or other software.

My keyboard specifically has a couple variations in which angle it can be adjusted to, however I found that after working on blender for long enough can start to cause strain in my wrist. So I'd also consider purchasing a wrist rest/pad, it made a big difference for me.

But to sum up, my recommendation would be a full-sized mechanical keyboard and also a wrist rest!
