Stratocaster Sunburst

Question Materials and Textures

I am trying to model a Stratocaster. I donßt wanna make it a single Color because that would be to simple. I wanna make it sunburst and vintage.

...and now I am stuck and need your help-

I need the frame from the Guitar black and then slightly go into that nice Sunburst feeling, with scratches and wood coming out... worn out like old guitars look like. I am now trying for days to figure it out.

I Tried UV unwrap it and paint it but not satisfied, from Gradient (I thought that was a good Idea) to overlaying textures, nothing I did was looking good. Can anybody please help me and get a Sunburst over a Stratocaster Body?

Thank you very much

Martin

Hello Martin. I don't understand exactly what you're saying. You want a specific effect of a texture? You need help hunting down a texture? Can you post screenshots or references to what you have in mind?

So you mean that gradient that goes from the middle with that orange to the edges towards black. You can achieve that with texture painting, you don't have to do it with procedural shading or anything, if you paint it you'll have much more control. Some good UV unwrapping, and I think if you want to get those tiny scratches you'll probably have to go 4K or even 8K.

You have seen the PotHead tutorial I believe? JL made a lot of painting and you can also take advantage of stenciling, set the brush to stencil and you can stamp those little scratches all over. It's a freaking fun process I'll tell you that. You can start by setting and laying out a UV unwrapping and post the results here.
