Is there a better/best way to subdiv model this?:

These are my attempts, but I feel like they're pretty messy and I'm just mentally missing a cleaner way of doing things:

    Yep as Martin did it, you need those holding edges. But you can also opt for not subdividing the model and working with the auto smooth/bevel/creasing technique. I think the Press Start course is the one that mostly uses those? Linking up:

    So weird I found this - I was thinking about this EXACT problem. It seems simple, but there's an elegance to the solution. Anyway, thanks - this cleared up some things.
