Global Z Axis change for the control bones?

Why did you change the control bones to not be oriented on the global z axis?

    Hi Christopher,
The main use of this chain is going to be for bending on the limbs of our character (although it can have many other use cases).
It's easier for the controls to match the orientation of the limbs (especially for the tweak bones)

If the arms are rigged in A pose - when the animator wants to create a bend in the arm, the tweak control might be moving in 3 axies.

But if the tweak controls are aligned with the limb, then it will only need to move on 1 axis.

You certainly can align the controls with the world for the exercise.  In fact it will be a good test of your understanding to overcome a few issues aligning the tweak bones will cause.
I will give you a big hint though - you will need a MCH bone that acts as the handle start/end.  And then the tweak bone will be the parent of this.

    Hope that helps.
