Simple transform question.

Question Modeling

Hi!

I can't remember how, or know if it's possible, but I'm wondering how you set the transform tool perpendicular (not sure if that is the right word) to a face. I tried the tranform orientations option on the top of the viewport but that doesn't seem to work.

I want to duplicate the highlighetd (orange) part up to the right, if that makes sense.

If you rotated that part in object mode, you should be able to use the Normal orientation:

If you lost the Normal orientation, you can select a couple of those faces, set the orientation to Normal and create a new orientation based on that one:

That works! I can't get the transform tool to physically change shape/location, but it works with the hotkeys x,y,z so that's good. Thank you :)

By the way, I tried to make an array modifier on the orange part but that wont follow the face orientation, any idea why?

You can do that in object mode. Go to:

    Trans-Orient.png

That will apply the custom transform to your object, or whatever transform you have set. But to your situation you can also just set the orientation itself without the object moving if you first turn on Origins:
