Normal maps

posted to: Baking Texture Maps

I'm trying to cobble together a sense of what I need to do to make a normal map.  Not made one before.  A lot of this I feel is over my head.  I feel I am close to understand and then take two steps back.  I managed through the Quixel video https://youtu.be/dmoy1p9z8vY?si=i9PrK44mtHFiI75n.  The Quixel guy talked about Ray Distance, I don't have it.  Not going to worry about it I suppose.  No cage option.  He went on about 4 mins explaining that one.  I don't have it either.

Does this map make sense to anyone?  What's the deal with the brown cylinder thing on the bottom two rows?

Ray Distance and Cage are under Selected to Active:

Your Normal Map looks not okay, but I can't tell what you did wrong exactly...Baking is an art in itself...

This course and especially this lesson might help:

Best to watch the whole chapter 2.

I finished the Normals but without the cage and raynessesessss...guess can redo..doesn't seem too time consuming.

Redoing is always the way to go, you spend far less time than troubleshooting and you learn more.
