Personally I think you should update to 4.0.2, but with that said lets hack around a bug.

    1. Before hacking lets make sure of a few things first. Click on console collection in outliner. Then click console in the outliner. Probably no change, but just incase that's it.

    2. With mouse cursor in 3D viewport press alt+b. If it pops up with white dotted lines one going across the left and right and one going up and down then this clip reagon is not your problem. just right click to cancel. If nothing seems to happen then try clicking the console to see if it can be selected.

    3. Save as a new file. close blender. restart blender. Load the file.

    Hack around the bugs:

    1. Go to preferences, then keymap, make sure at the top it is set to blender keymap not blender 2.7x or industry compatible. change select with mouse button from left to right.(assuming you're using left click select. Switch it if you'r using right click select). Then change it back to left. close preferences. If this doesn't fix it then move on to 2.

    2. Right click on the tab at the top that says layout and click delete. use mouse wheel or middle mouse button to move to the end of the tab and click the plus sign, then click general, then click layout, right click on new layout tab, and click order to front.

That's all I've got, because from your image your not in edit mode, your not in local view, the collection and the object are selectable, and the no object types are set to not selected. Just in case click the icon of the arrow head and eye together on the header of the 3D Viewport and make sure that next to mesh the arrow head is solid white.

Update: I fixed it!!! in case anyone has the same problem i fixed it by right-clicking to select the object in scene collection, then deselecting and then selecting it again with left click, did that for both the plane and the console

    Hi Isabel iisabautista00 ,

I am glad you got it working!

Now, I don't know exactly what happened, but here is an example of what could create a situation like that. If you have one or more Selected Objects and an Active Object in a different Collection:

    Collection_01.png

And then disable the Collection with the Active Object:

    Collection_02.png

And if that Collection is nested somewhere in another, not expanded, Collection, it wouldn't be visible in the Outliner...

Probably a glitch in spacetime, your active object (lighter orange) is in another dimension somewhere, and you can only see the selected object (darker orange).

There's a lesson in there somewhere!

I don't like it when mysteries go unsolved. Feels like the killer got away and we're in the office looking kinda sad stashing all the paperwork on boxes.

    Here's a more likely scenario:

If you have one Object Selected (so that is the Active Object) and Delete it. Then Box Select another Object, you get something like this:

Yep just tried it, at least it's just a matter of clicking on top of it, good to know this can happen though and can cause confusion.
