I have been experimenting with the UV mapping options, and when I start with a basic cube model and select 'Follow Active Quads' the UV map that is created is much bigger than the 1024 x 1024 px square of the canvass. I tried painting on the 'tabs' of the unwrapped box, but since they are outside of the canvass area, the painting tool doesn't affect them. Should I try to somehow shrink the UV quad to fit within the square canvass? Or is there another way to paint on these surfaces in UV view? Thanks!

You can simply select all your UVs and scale them down to fit within your canvas. Alternatively you can use the "Pack Islands" tool but this will move your islands around for an attempt to best fit.

Perfect! So, I didn't see the Manipulator tools in the UV Editor's bottom menu (ie. as they're positioned in the 3D Viewport's Menu), so I assumed we couldn't transform the UV geometry. But I see them up in the UV tool bar now. Thanks so much Kent, I appreciate the reply! ...I'm also going thru some of your other vids, and I have a question about the 'Baking' process, but I think I'll just tackle one learning curve at a time :)
