VERTEX PAINT FLIP COLOUR SELECTION

posted to: Dice Material
For the life of me I cannot duplicate the dice material chapter at time stamp approx. 1min 40 to 2min. There is even an odd skip in the movie as well.

    Hi Robert rrhowell1972 ,

If I understand correctly, you want to know, how to flip the two colors (black/white) of the Vertex Paint. The trick is to press 'X', while the Mouse Pointer is in the 3D Viewport. So not with your Mouse over the color swatches.

Yeah! Even though Kent doesn't say it, the screencast keys in the bottom right corner display 'x', although quite small.

    Who reviewed this course? 🙄😗🎶

I need to pay more attention in class!
Scrubbing through the timeline results in lower grades, unless of course you are studying animation where it is essential.

Yeah Kent says it "with X" and it also shows it on the screen cast keys. The problem always is that the mouse pointer is always elsewhere and not on the 3D viewport when you try X and since that function is context dependent, it gets frustrating sometimes.

OK tried it again. Still did not work in Blender 4.0..... Went back to 3.5 and WORKED PERFECTLY!!!!! I will have to wait until someone else can confirm if the problem exists in 4.0 only. I have done it 3 different times in 3.5 with no issues and no success in 4.0.

    Hi Robert rrhowell1972 ,

X still flips the Color swatches in 4.0!

Your problem is probably, that filling the Selection has a new shortcut.

    Before 4.0 it was SHIFT+K

    In 4.0 it is CTRL+X.

rrhowell1972 Going forward with CGC courses (and outside CGC), I strongly recommend using the version of Blender the course/video was recorded with. The main goal when learning is to understand the concepts. Translating the concepts to various versions of Blender is a small annoyance compared to following courses with different versions of the app.

Morning Kent! Seems like a good idea but..................... I got the impression via responses that I had lost my marbles. It was even stated that the tutorial had been reviewed (which of course it was (for an older version)). After that, I went back again...................... and kept trying and found the difference between 3.5 and 4.0. The good thing is I believe the best way to learn is to find problems and discover solutions which is what has happened. Thanks.

I also was lost with the shortcutt key for set vertex colors.

Going the long way home, use the menu: Paint — Set Vertex Colors ;-)
