Why do my prefs keeping getting reset?

Question

My undos keep getting reset to 32 after I set them to 100 and some add-ons get disabled too. I don't understand it. I've got auto saving on and closed the prefs dialogue and then saved the file but after a crash or some other unknown event they get reset

    No idea, just computers being computers. Maybe download Blender again and do a fresh install or if you're using 4.0 it may be a bug yet to be squashed, so perhaps consider going back a version.

    HM,

    I don't know that either. It shouldn't do that, I think. Never happened to me...Maybe a bug indeed?

    This can be tricky since some user preferences can be saved in your blend file. I'd start by removing the current user preferences file. This way if it's corrupt, locked or on a bad spot on the drive you can start fresh.

    /Users/{your username}/appdata/roaming/blender foundation/blender/{blender version}

    Note: appdata folder is a hidden folder. Delete userpref.blend. then open blender and configure it like you want it. Also if it glitches when you open a blend file just close blender start it up again. When you go to open that blend file, press N to bring up n-panel while you're in the file browser. Then uncheck load UI. If you want to make it unchecked by default: edit or F4->preferences.(4.0+ Ctrl+comma is a new hotkey) then click save & load. Uncheck load UI.

    You may want to take a closer look at any third party add-ons you have.
    Make sure you have the latest version and it is updated and compatible with the Blender version you are using.

    Third party add-ons are common causes of unexpected behaviour in Blender.

    Thanks. It's really odd. Recent example. I'd set my local view keymap prefs to uncheck frame selected. Had closed the prefs. After a crash the prefs had the frame selected checkbox turned back on. I have only installed about 3 or 4 add-ons so far

    I'm not sure, but if you changed the preferences it may be an active change as you are working, but may not save the preferences for future Blender sessions until you save the file.
    I wouldn't of thought so, I would expect the preferences to save on closing the window, but I can't see why else it would reset.

    Indeed, the default behavior is to Save the Preferences when you close the window (exception: if you Load Factory Preferences and then change something, the changes won't be Saved (Factory Preferences are and should be fixed)):
