When I inset it is splitting my faces. I've thought that this is down to the angle but in the video you can see the faces are at 90 degrees and stay together.
I've been sure to double tap i to make sure the separated faces stay together
Is there a threshold value I've missed so the inset stays 'complete'?
Even if I dissolve the sharpening edge I still can't get it to stay together
Individual is OFF and it's still splitting
If I create a dummy cube the faces inset as one around the 90 degree angle but on my hand model they don't. I've checked the normals
I've fixed it. It was obviously a problem with that piece of topology so I went in an found duplicated vertices and edges
Poked around. Deleted and merged. Ended up with this gap to fill
Now working as expected
A common cause of most problems is double vertices like this.
When things like this don't work as expected, selecting all vertices by pressing 'A' in edit mode, 'M' and then select 'By Distance' will usually fix it.
Another common issue is flipped normals, with all vertices selected in edit mode, SHIFT+N will recalculate the normals.
