Setting up a 3d print character in multiple poses issue...

Question

Hey there I’m going back to basics on this simple character.

Screenshot_6.jpg

It will need to be 3d printed with multiple models in different poses.

In another post others said to sculpt it low poly first in it’s pose then remesh with more geometry and sculpt the fur, but if there’s 30 models to do then that means sculpting the fur 30 times which seems inefficient.

But if I remesh this base model first and sculpt the fur I have issues with posing the model.

Is there a better way to get these 30 models done?

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Ross,

I have never done something like that, but it seems to me, that on large parts of the body, the fur won't be affected (?) by posing, so you could try sculpting those already and leave the elbows and so for after the Posing.

I believe if you have a base model with nice clean topology and you use a multires modifier to sculpt your fur, there shouldn't be a problem for posing him and getting all the 30 poses from just that model. With the multires modifier you can sculpt all the details and pose him and modify the base mesh if needed. But it is insane to have to sculpt the same thing 30 times, don't take that approach. Make a simple test to see if the Multires approach works.

Ahhh no. You may have to do some touch up to the fur after posing, but sculpting the fur for each pose is definitely not the way to go. Ideally you would create the topology of the fur in preparation for the deformation of the armature. That could take years of experience. The easier solution is to use the low poly mesh as a deform Cage for the fur sculpted mesh. This would help smooth out some of the deformation issues for the fur in my opinion.
