My personal tip would be:
Don't Save!
Only Save incremental versions before you are going to do something potentially dangerous.
Simple Saving, is a bit of an old thing, from when Blender would Crash often...
Now we have a really good working Autosave.
Especially with this Course, I found that excessive (and unnecessary) Saving can have a detrimental effect.
Omar and Martin are spot on: Incremental saving is crucial with every Blender project. Most people get very into this precautionary technique and end up with hundreds of individual saves. That's simply a waste of disk space in my opinion. But saving at key milestones in the process, at the very least, is a wise method to make a habit of.
Blender has auto saving enabled by default. Were you able to check those to recover previous versions of your head?
