On the normal map baking example, when I change the shading mode to GLSL and the viewport shading to Texture, the model does not illuminate properly. This happens in Object Mode (for some reason edit mode seems to be applying the normal map correctly). Is there any setting I may have skipped?     Hmm..it looks like your mesh's face normals are reversed. Try selecting all faces in Edit mode and "Flip Direction" in the Shading/UVs tab of the tool panel.
