Copy modifiers

Question Modeling

Hey!

I try to copy the solifidy modifier to another object and once I click "Copy modifiers", instead of doing what is supposed to, it deletes the modifier on the other object too (the one I wanted to copy from). I have a video below.

Thanks

    Hey ox
You need the object with the modifiers on as the active object (lighter orange)
Select the object you want to copy the modifier to, then select the object with the modifier to be copied last.

Yes, you are right. I missed that part.

Now I have another issue where the modifier applied on the 2nd object gets extruded outwards and doesn't align with the cylinder anymore.

You mean you want the solidify to happen inward and not outward? If that's the case you can try the offset option in the modifier, it's on -1, try setting it to 0 or to 1

  • Martin Bergwerf replied

Make sure your Normals are consistent

  • Roxana Moise-Dan(ox) replied

    Normals are ok, already checked.

    I'll find another way.

Thanks for the help so far.

  • Omar Domenech replied

I still don't get the problem though, the extruding outwards it's what the solidify is supposed to do. What are you trying to achieve?

  • Adrian Bellworthy replied

Did you check the normals on both objects?
The modifier offset is set to -1, which is inwards

So the cylinder with the solidify modifer was extruded inwards. That's what happened when I added the solidify modifier.

But then when I copy the same modifier to the water collector (which also has a cylinder at the bottom), it gets extruded outwards, making the 2 cylinders not snapping/ aligning together.

yes, I usually work with Face Orientation turned on when I do these kind of changes. Normals are ok. The offset is set to -1 to both objects. That's what I don't get, I copy the same modifier, shouldn't it yield the same result?

  • Adrian Bellworthy replied

    What about the scale?

Is the scale on both objects 1, 1, 1?

  • Roxana Moise-Dan(ox) replied

Yep. I don't want to ask more of your time. I found another way, scaled the other cylinder.

    Really appreciate everything.

    One last thing!
I see you have quite a few add-ons enabled, these are common causes of strange behaviour as they alter Blenders default behaviour for there own purposes.

Try disabling them one by one to see if it is one of those. You'll know for future reference.

Also turn on Face Orientation to see if it's all blue. Sometimes faces are red even though you are recalculating the normals.
