Question Rigging

Can someone please explain what does rigging a 3D model means?

English is not my first language, and still, after translation I cannot imagine what rigging has to do with 3D modeling.

If you create a human 3D model you can make that model move ie walk or dance for example using a rig

    Solution

Hey nice to see a real_human here,
Rigging is the process of adding an armature and bones to a model for the purpose of animating the model.
Not only Human models, but any model can be rigged.

I think about it as literally adding bones, no surprise that they are called bones on the armature object. Imagine a human body or a dog and they don't have bones, they would be mush not being able to move or stand up, no joints to pivot the arms or legs, no knees, etc. Same for your 3D model when you just have your mesh, it's got nothing inside and so it can't do any of those stuff either. So if you want your 3D model to move as a real human would, you add an armature that contain bones for your 3D model, and those bones would serve the function your real bones serve. They allow you to move and pivot and twist, etc. That process to get those functionalities to your 3D model is called rigging. You "rig" your model with all the appropriate parts to function.
