Hi Kent. Based on my own online searches, it seems that every reflective material has an IOR value. If I understand correctly on how you're applying the IOR value to the Glossy BSDF, the roughness of a reflection is always relative to the camera and the light in the scene. I'm just curious, but under what circumstances would you ever want the roughness of a reflection to be consistent?

Sorry for the grossly late reply..but I'm not sure there's ever a situation in reality where glossiness is consistent from all viewing angles. I think it's just part of the nature of reflection, which we call "fresnel".

And you're right that scientists have identified IOR values for reflective surfaces. I see those as a good starting point but always lean on my artistic eye/liberty for the final choice.
